New record for Habitat

Yesterday the weather improved and me and Lukas decided to go fishing again. We went to Azores bank. In the first few hours nothig happened but around 1pm we got a strike from a white marlin. After a short fight we could release it.

Around one hour later we got another strike. This time it was a blue marlin. The fish made a big first run and than it stopped and it was quite easy for us to get the leader and release the fish. It was the 25th blue marlin we caught this season what means a new record for Habitat. We were really happy and decided to go back the marina after that fish.

Both fish on that day ate the Hot Breakfast from Black Bart

No conditions to fish

Saturday 17th we had really strong wind and rough sea. We tried to find a protected area but it was impossible. So we decided after one hour searching to go back to the marina.

Philip and his big blue

On Friday 16th we had a lot of wind and we tried to find a protected area to fish with Philip and Tony. It was the south of Pico. Maybe 45 minutes after we started trolling we got a bite on our short corner but pulled the hook. Nobody saw what it was, but the fish came back and it tourned out that it was a big blue marlin. The fish wanted to eat the Big Rock Plunger but missed it the first time and came again and this time he got the lure and it was well hooked. Philp went to the chair and a big fight began. After the first run the fish turned direction and for a moment we tought we pulled the hook but we didn´t. After 30 minutes we could see the fish the first time close to the boat. But it stayed down and it was impossible to get the leader. We had almost full drag on the fish but it still stayed down. Finally after more than two hours we could get the leader. It was a really huge fish, the second biggest of the season for us. Now another boat came and the boys from Full Pull made some pictures from us with the fish. Thanks for that!!!!!

After that we decided to release the fish and it swam away.

Congratulations to Philip for his really big blue marlin!!!!!!!!!!!

2 nice Blues

Today we fished Azores bank again. It was a cloudy and cold day but the sea was more or less calm. In the morning nothing happened, but around 1pm we got our first bite of the day. Philip was in the chair and the fish went in the dacron on the first run. Philip did a great job and we could back down to fish very fast and after 40 minutes we could get the leader. It was a nice blue marlin around 800 pound, caught on Black Barts Big Rock Plunger.
Just 15 minutes after that we got another strike from a blue marlin. Tony had to fight the fish for 90 minutes untill we could get the leader. The fish was around 700 pound and ate the Abaco Prawler from Black Bart.

Pull the hook day

Yesterday we had calm sea the whole day and we went to Azores bank. After one hour trolling we got a bite from a white marlin but missed it. Another hour later one more white marlin and missed it again.

Around 2pm we got a strike from a blue marlin. Tony went to the chair and after 20 minutes fighting the fish he could release his second blue marlin on this trip. The fish was around 650 pound and ate the Blue Breakfast from Black Bart.

We put the lures out again and just 10 minutes later we hooked a second blue marlin. Philip was fighting the fish but had no luck and we pulled the hook.

Good start for Philip and Tony

On Tuesday 13th we started a five day charter with Philip and Tony from England. We fished in the north of the island. Around noon we got the first bite from a blue and Tony went to chair. After a short fight we could release a 400 pound blue marlin. The fish ate the Big Rock Plunger from Black Bart.
One hour after we released that fish we got a second strike. Now it was Philip who went to chair. The fish jumped a lot and finally we could get the leader and release another 400 pound blue marlin. This marlin ate the Abaco Prawler from Black Bart.

Bad weather

Yesterday it was the last fishing day for Stig but he had bad luck with the weather. In the morning we had rough sea and wind but we could find a protected area in front of the airport. But around 1pm the wind changed direction and now we had no more protection. The sea was so rough that we thought it was impossible to fight a fish in that conditions and so we decided to go back to the marina after a half day fishing.

Lucky Stig

Sunday 11th was day 2 for Stig and we fished the north again. Around the same time as the day before we hooked a blue marlin. Stig was fighting the fish for 45minutes until he could release his first blue marlin on this trip. Th fish was aond 700 pounds and ate the Kona Pro Jet from Black Bart. After that we put the lures back in the water and when I was putting the teaser in the right position a blue marlin came and attacked it. I pulled the teaser out of its mouth and the fish came to the Kona Pro Jet. But the marlin missed the lure and got hooked in the dorsal fin. So a spectacular fight began and it took us 2 hours in rough sea till we could get the leader. The fish was around 750 pounds.

Lost marlin

On Saturday 10th we started a 3 day charter with Stig from Denmark. It was a windy day and we decided to fish in the north of Faial. Around 1pm we got a strike from a blue and Stig started to fight the fish. First it seems that the fish didn´t realize that it was hooked and we could win some line. But after a few minutes the marlin made a big run and it impossible for us to stop the fish. First just on the surface and we tried to follow it but after a while it decided to go down. We could see how more and more line went out and the only way was to stop the fish, otherwise we would have been run out of line. So we put more and more drag on the fish and finally the line broke.
That was the only fish we saw on that day.

Short day and big fish

Yesterday we took a day off because the weather was really bad, but today we wanted to fish again. First we planed to go to Azores bank but on the way there the sea was really rough and we decided to fish in a protected area close to the airport. Just 20 minutes after we put the lures in the water we got a blue marlin bite. On the first run the fish went in the dacron and left the protected area. That made it very difficult for us to fight the fish but finally after 2 hours fight we could get the leader. The fish was around 850lb and after that we decided to go back to the marina. The sea was still very rough and it had been very difficult to fight another fish because it was again just me and Lukas on the boat fishing.

Some more billfish for us

After one day off me and Lukas went out fishing yesterday. It was a little bit windy in the morning but the wind should slow down around noon and so we decided to go to Azores bank. Till 3pm we saw nothing but then we got a bite from a white marlin and missed it, but the fish came back and took the lure again. After a really short fight we could release the fish.

2 hours later we got a bite but nobody saw what it was. While we were clearing the gear the fish stopped to take line from the reel and it looked like we pulled the hooks. But when we got the lure closer to the boat we saw that there was a small spearfish on the hook. We took a few pictures from the fish and released it after that.

Quiet days

On 4th and 5th we fished on Condor bank. We had rough sea and on 4th we missed a white marlin and on 5th we didn´t see anything.

Great day in rough weather

On Saturday 3rd it was windy and rough. We decided to try the south of Faial first and went after 2 hours to Condor bank. Just after we arrived there we caught a mako shark and released it quickly. Just a few minutes after that we got a bite from a blue marlin. After a short fight the fish was tired and we could release it. The marlin was around 750lb and ate the Hot Breakfast from Black Bart.

2 hours later we got another bite and caught the 3rd fish on that day. It was a big spearfish, that we released after a few photos.

800lb

On Friday 2nd we fished on Azores bank the whole day. Around 2pm we caught a nice blue marlin around 800lb. The fish did some spectacular jumps close to the boat.

Long fight

Today we fished Azores bank again. After 20 minutes trolling we hooked a blue marlin. The fish went in the dacron on the first run and didn´t jump at all. One hour later we had the fish around 40 meters close to the boat. But the fish stayed down and we had no chance to lift it up. Finally after 2 hours and 20 minutes we had the fish on the leader. It was in really bad condition and we didn´t think that it is going to survive, so we decided to boat it. The fish had 660lb and lure was again the Hot Breakfast.

It was Steve´s longest fight with a fish and he did an excellent job. Congratulations to you!!!

Nothing at all

Yesterday the sea was rough and we started to fish in the north of the island but we saw nothing special, so we decided to see what is happening at Condor bank. There we saw some dolphins but no marlin, so we finished th day without a fish.

Big one for Steve

On Monday 29th we started a 4 day charter with Steve from England. The sea was a little bit rough but we decided to fish Azores bank again. After a few hours trolling we got a strike from a big blue marlin. Steve had to fight the fish for 45 minutes before Lukas could get the leader and we released a blue marlin around 900lb. Blue marlin with Kareem

After one day off we started a 5 day charter with Kareem on 24th. We went to Azores bank and after 15 minutes we hooked the first fish. After 20 minutes Kareem released a blue marlin around 450lb. The fish ate the Big Rock Plunger from Black Bart.

Half an hour later we raised another one but we could get no bite from it.

Around noon we got another bite from a blue marlin but pulled the hook just after the strike.

Lost a Blue

On 22nd we fished at Condor bank. We got a blue marlin strike but lost the fish after a few minutes. That was the only fish we saw on that day.

No luck today

Today we fished at Azores bank and we lost a blue marlin after 5 minutes. In the late afternoon we got another bite from a mako shark but we couldn´t hook it.

One marlin and a dive

On 18th just the crew fished on Condor bank. In the morning we saw nothing, but around 2pm we got nice strike on our Black Bart Super Plunger. After 45 minutes we got the leader the first time but the fish went in the propellor and I had to jump into the water to get the line out. It worked and the fish was still on, so we could continue the fight. After 1 1/2 hours Lukas could get the leader and we could release a 700lb blue marlin. When we had the fish next to the boat Brasilia passed and made some good pictures. Thanks for that!!

Windy day

On Wednesday it was very windy and the sea was pretty rough. We started to fish in the South of the island and in the late afternoon when the wind calmed down a little bit we went to the North again. But today without success. We saw nothing the whole day.

Big Blue in the North

On Tuesday 16th we decided to fish in the North of the island. Just me and Lukas went there and around 4pm we hooked a nice blue marlin. On the first run it went in the dacron and came off after that.
Late in the evening we got another chance. A marlin ate the Black Bart Kona Classic Tube on our long rigger. After one hour we managed to release a 850lb blue marlin.

2 days Azores bank and nothing

Hi everybody,

After one day off on Saturday we fished on Sunday and Monday again. We went to Azores bank but didn't see anything those two days.

Grander for Habitat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday just me and Lukas decided to go out on our own again. We fished at Azores bank and around 2 pm we saw a really big fish behind the teaser. I tried to get the teaser out of the water as soon as I could and the fish came on the lure behind the teaser. It took a few meters of line but came off. Then the fish came back on the short rigger and the same thing again. But finally the fish came back again and ate the Angle 1656 from Black Bart on the long rigger. This time the fish was hooked well and Lukas went to the chair. After one long run we could get closer to fish and after 1 1/2 hours I could get the leader the first time. But the fish wasn´t tired and I had to let it go again. I got the leader second time but same thing again. Then the fish went down. Lukas tried to put as much drag as possible on the fish ( we mesured 48lb of drag after the fight) to stop it, but the fish died and he had to lift the fish up. I was going forward with the boat till we got a better angle and on the way back Lukas could reel in some line. We did this a few times and finally we could get the fish after 3 hours fighting time.

We brought the fish to the scale and it weighted 1175lb. So we got the first grander on Habitat. The fish was caught on an 80lb line and almost a world record.

Angry marlin

On 11th of August we had no charter but the conditions were perfect. So just the crew went fishing to Azores bank. Nothing special happened for the first couple hours but around 2pm we got a nice marlin bite on the short corner. It took us around 15 minutes to get the 650lb blue marlin close to the boat. But than the fish was really angry when we had her on the leader. The tricky thing was that we had no wireman on board. So Lukas had to put the rod in the rodholder when we had the swivel on the rodtip and had to run to grab the leader. When we had the fish at the surface I got the bill but she was shaking her had all the time so we had to let her go again. Fanially after 30 more minutes we could remove the hook and release a healthy blue marlin.

After that we trolled on the way back home but nothing else happened.

Fishing in the north

After 2 days rough water we fished on wednesday 10th with an italian family in the north of the island. The conditions were good, we had a lot of bait and many dolphins. Around noon we had a bite from a mako shark and after 15 minutes we released the 100lb fish. On our way back saw another mako on the surface but it wasn´t interested in our lures.

650lb blue marlin on Azores bank

Yesterday the wind slowed down and the sea was calm again. We had no charter today but we decided to go out fishing on our own. We went to Azores bank and after 10 minutes trolling we got a blue marlin strike. Lukas went to the chair and after around 50 minutes Alexandre (Amarelo), who went with us today took the leader. The fish was around 650lb and ate a Black Bart lure.

After that fish we saw nothing for the rest of the day.

Nada

After one day off we went out fishing again on Saturday. The sea was really rough and we saw nothing the whole day.

After a while we got a bite from a mako shark. After a short fight we caught the fish with around 130lb. Late in the afternoon we got another bite from a dorado but after a couple seconds it came off.

Just one hour before we had to go back we got a strike from a nice blue marlin. We had the fish on for around 5 minutes but she was jumping crazy and finally we pulled the hooks out.
But anyway it seems that we have a lot of fish around and the fishing should stay excellent for the next time.
